Introduction to the School of Physical Education of Guangxi University


The School of Physical Education of Guangxi University was established in April 2011, evolving from the former Physical Education Teaching Department of Guangxi University. The schools responsibilities include the instruction of public physical education courses, the cultivation of undergraduates and postgraduates in the field of sports with two programs, the administration of mass sports on campus, and the coaching and management of high-level sports teams. The school is comprised of six instructional and academic departments, including small ball sports, big ball (team ball sports), comprehensive sports, dancing and martial arts, human sports science, and sports humanities and sociology. In terms of sports facilities, there are three comprehensive stadiums and related supporting facilities located in the west, east, and north campuses respectively, covering a total area of 114,000 square meters.

The school has a total of 55 full-time teaching and academic staff, including two professors, 17 associate professors, one postdoctoral researcher who has completed the tenure, ten individuals holding doctoral qualifications, two doctoral candidates, and one postdoctoral fellow. The faculty includes 11 senior coaches and national referees, one youth sports expert in Guangxi, two certified national psychological counselor, two holders of the Health Professional Qualification certificate, one national entrepreneurship training lecturer, and five dual-qualified teachers.

The school enrolls undergraduate students majoring in athletic training and postgraduate students (masters level) majoring in physical education. 285 students are currently enrolled in the school, including 177 undergraduates and 73 postgraduates. In the past three years, the employment rate of graduates has been above 90%, which is among the highest in the university.

Since its establishment over a decade ago, the school has enrolled 401 undergraduate students in the athletic training program, 180 undergraduate students in the social sports program, seven postgraduate students (masters level) in the public sports management program, and 123 postgraduate students (master level) in the physical education program, demonstrating the schools contribution to the cultivation of sports talent at national level. The school has contributed to the universitys receipt of commendations, including the "Excellent Higher Education Institution in Implementing the Regulations on School Sports Work Nationwide", the "National Award for Popularizing the Aerobic Exercise Standards", and the "National Advanced Unit in Mass Sports". In 2023, the school was honored as “Guangxi University Outstanding Contribution Subdivision for Undergraduate Education Teaching Audit and Evaluation”, one teacher was honored as Outstanding Contribution Individual and seven teachers as "Advanced Individuals". The postgraduate program (Master) successfully passed the Ministry of Education's verification, receiving unanimous support from all 24 experts in the National Physical Education Graduate Education Steering Committee. This indicates full recognition of our work and achievements.

In recent years, the school has achieved notable success in competitive sports at all levels. 2023 to date, the school has won four world championships (including two champions won by Lan Xingyu at the 31st World University Summer Games Men's Team and Ring, one champion won by Li Yanrong in freestyle wrestling at World U20 International Wrestling Championships, one champion won by Guan Hanzhi in Men's 200-meter fin swimming at the 23rd World Webbing Championships and broke the world record), two Asian champions, one third-place (Lan Xingyu in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games gymnastics competition), 16 national champions, 19 national runners-up, and 12 national third place. Qin Wenxu, a 2019 undergraduate who enlisted in the army, won the men's 90-meter beach running champion at the 12th Water Rescue World Championships, achieving a “Zero breakthrough” in gold medals for the People's Liberation Army in this event, was honored with a “First-class merit. The Cheerleading Team won the second runner-up of the Skill Cheerleading All-Female Elite Group of the Second World University Cheerleading Championships in 2024. The men's basketball team successfully reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 National Competition, and the men's and women's basketball teams both reached the 2024 CUBAL National Tournament.

The school attaches great importance to mass sports on campus, and has successfully hosted over 100 national and regional competitions since 2018. In 2023, the school successfully hosted the badminton events of the 1st National Student (Youth) Games, and the related work received affirmation and praise from the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport of China, and leaders at the regional level, with a number of teachers and students being honored and awarded. In 2024, the school hosted the “Meet the Future” Youth Sports Skills Series - Guangxi Basketball Championships, which was divided into three levels of competitions: grass-roots competitions, finals and national invitational tournaments, with an extensive scale that includes 623 teams and 4,402 players participating in 1,505 matches, bringing a significant impact nationwide.

The School of Physical Education will insist on studying and implementing the spirit of the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on education and sports, always upholding the spirit of the school motto of “diligence and sincerity”, actively promoting and practicing the Guangxi University sports spirit of "being able to endure hardships, daring to strive, valuing teamwork, being willing to dedicate, and striving for the best." With a sense of responsibility and urgency, the school will promote the high-quality development of college sports and contribute to the building of a powerful sports nation.
